How many Smiles do you earn per dollar?
Scooter's Rewards uses two earn rates that depend on how you pay. When you pay with the Scooter's app or use Order Ahead, you earn 5 Smiles for every $1 you spend. When you only scan your app for credit but pay with a separate card or cash, you earn 3 Smiles for every $1.
The higher rate rewards paying inside the app, so loading funds or checking out in-app earns Smiles faster than scanning and then paying another way.
What purchases do not earn Smiles?
Loyalty programs usually exclude some spend from earning points, and Scooter's follows the same pattern. Buying a gift card generally does not earn Smiles, because the Smiles are earned when that gift card is later spent on a drink. Taxes and tips are typically excluded from the qualifying amount, so Smiles are calculated on the food and drink subtotal.

Can you earn Smiles when paying cash?
You can still earn Smiles when paying cash, but at the lower rate. If you scan your Scooter's app for credit and then hand over cash, you earn 3 Smiles per $1 rather than the 5 Smiles per $1 reserved for in-app payment. To reach the higher rate, pay through the app or use Order Ahead instead of paying cash at the window.
Drive-thru and kiosk staff can scan your app code, so cash customers should scan first to make sure the visit still counts.
Do status members earn bonus Smiles?
Scooter's Rewards has tiers, and higher tiers can unlock perks on top of the base earn rate. Bonus Smiles, birthday rewards, and periodic promotions are common ways loyalty programs add value for frequent visitors.
